Join the Young Professionals in storming local beaches for annual clean up Saturday

The Young Professionals of Campbell River are excited about their second annual Oceans Day Beach Clean Up

The Young Professionals of Campbell River (YPCR) are excited about their second annual Oceans Day Beach Clean Up on Saturday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Ken Forde Park and everyone is invited!

With over 50 people attending last year the YPCR is hoping for another great turnout this year.

“With the Oceans Day festival happening at the Maritime Heritage Centre, a beach clean-up is a great way to support the message about the importance of our oceans and how lucky we are to be steps away from the ocean here in Campbell River.  It’s also a great excuse to get outside and enjoy the sunny weather,” says Sara Crowhurst, owner of the Travel Place, YPCR member and event committee member.

Community involvement is one of the YPCR’s four pillars and last year the Oceans Day clean up saw the community collect 75 kg of garbage from local beaches.

“It’s a low key and fun event where we take pictures of all attendees as they arrive and when they return with their bags full of garbage recognizing the difference they made,” says Maria Woodward, BMO financial services manager, YPCR Member and Event Committee Member. YPCR will provide gloves, bags and maps to anyone who participates along with a table of delicious homemade goodies.

“Last year we had a great mix of people and we encourage everyone to come down for a quick clean up or spend the day at our tents at Ken Forde Park to celebrate Oceans Day and our community,” says Byron Maier, Remax Realtor, YPCR community involvement director and event committee member.
