The John Howard Society of North Island, an organization that provides programs and support to help children, youth, adults, and families lead safer, healthier lives, is delighted to announce the appointment of Tyler Fainstat as its new executive director.
“We are thrilled to welcome Tyler to The John Howard Society of North Island as our new executive director. He brings a wealth of experience and abundant positive energy,” says Colleen Ross, interim executive director.
Fainstat has a wealth of experience in social services and not-for-profit leadership. He has been executive director of The John Howard Society of Ottawa for the past eight years. Before that he was executive director of The John Howard Society of Kingston for three years. He also spent almost 10 years working abroad with the international medical humanitarian organization, Médecins Sans Frontières, as a project coordinator, country director, and executive director. Fainstat has a master’s degree in international relations and economics from the London School of Economics and a BA (Hons) in political studies from Trent University.
“Tyler will continue the Society’s long tradition of providing compassionate, flexible services to youth and adults in the region as well as fostering strong community engagement. His wide range of experience will bring fresh ideas, and we are fortunate to have found someone who fits so well with the values of the Society,” says Jay Havelaar, board president.
Fainstat’s recent volunteer roles include board chair of Ottawa Inner City Health; co-chair of the Community Advisory Board (CAB) Homelessness, Ottawa; and board treasurer/vice-chair of the Ottawa Alliance to End Homelessness.
“I am honoured and thrilled to be joining such a dynamic and esteemed organization. I am really looking forward to getting to know all the staff, partners, and community members of The John Howard Society of North Island, and working together to advance the values and mission of the organization,” says Fainstat.
