Carihi Secondary graduate, Laura Murphy, and Timberline Secondary graduate, Hayley Moeller are the School District 72 2014 recipients of the prestigious Governor General’s Medallion.
Each secondary school in the province is given a medallion to annually recognize the graduate who has achieved the highest, combined academic grade point average from their grade 11 and 12 years.
Carihi Secondary’s top academic student, Murphy, is moving in September to Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside to attend The War College, a year-long Salvation Army program that provides assistance to Downtown Eastside residents. Afterwards, Murphy plans to attend UVic to work towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and her long range plans also include earning a Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
Moeller, Timberline’s top academic student, is currently enrolled at the UBC where she is working towards a Bachelor of Commerce Degree. In addition to excelling at her studies at Timberline, Moeller was a member of CR Dance Xtreme’s show team, a competitive dance ensemble.
“Hayley and Laura have greatly contributed to their school community while showing excellence and dedication in their studies. Both young ladies have a bright future ahead and will undoubtedly continue to excel,” says Tom Longridge, superintendent for School District 72.
