At the May 25 council meeting, Campbell River firefighter Jim Vaton was recognized for 40 years of fire service.

Vaton began his volunteer career with the Courtenay Fire Department 1962, before joining the Campbell River Fire Department in 1986.

Vaton is still a member at the No. 2 Fire Hall and currently provides administrative and operational support to the department as a Lieutenant.

“Campbell River Council appreciates Lieutenant Vaton’s 40 years of dedication and commitment to investing his energy towards this essential role in our community,” says Coun. Charlie Cornfield.

The Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal Second Bar, which Fire Chief Ian Baikie presented to Vaton last month, honours members of a recognized Canadian Fire Service who have completed 40 years of service in the performance of duties involving potential risks.
