The Campbell River Hospital Foundation’s first annual Scrap Metal Challenge was a junk yard triumph.

Local businesses and the City of Campbell River went head-to-head in a race to donate the most scrap metal through the month of June.

Participant ABC Recycling, which supplied bins, went above and beyond to make sure the contest was a success, said Alana Caldwell of the Hospital Foundation.

“ABC Recycling was there for the Hospital Foundation throughout this whole challenge and in addition to all of their support, they surprised the foundation with a donation of $5,000,” Caldwell said on behalf of the foundation. “A special thank-you to Rick Coombs and Katie Barton for your contribution to community health care.”

Finning Canada was the winner of the contest.

The company will get to keep the trophy, made from a kitchen sink, for one year.
