Check out Vancouver Island Fibre Fest this weekend at the Community Centre and discover the variety of textile arts.

“With the fashion show, kids’ corner, the fibre market and classes in quilting, applique, fabric dyeing, weaving, knitting, felting and more, there’s so much to see and do,” says recreation programmer Judy Ridgway. “Pick up a brochure and register for a class or two. Workshops are filling up quickly, but there is still room in many of them. There will be limited registration at the event, but if you want to ensure that you get a spot come and register before.”

Fibre Fest begins today, running from 1-8 p.m. It continues Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and wraps up Sunday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Vendors at this year’s Fibre Market are coming from Vancouver, Powell River, the Gulf Islands, Gibsons, Alert Bay, Black Creek, Courtenay, Errington, Qualicum Beach and Campbell River. They include: Needle & Arts Centre; Velma Richmond Pottery; Funtifyd Creations; G&M Hand Dyes; Cindy’s Threadworks; Knit-n-Stitch Shoppe; WW Creations (button lady gallery); Eileen’s Studio (beads and more); The Weaver’s Atelier; Grinsheep Fibre Productions; Rainbow Fibres; Wool n Love; Sewing by the Sea; Unwind Knit and Fibre; Knitopia; and Wool is Not Enough!

“There will be an amazing selection for shopping or browsing,” Ridgway says.

Vancouver Island Fibre Fest will also feature displays of some local guilds and demonstrations throughout the weekend, plus the popular Kids’ Corner, where young ones can get hands-on time in the creative atmosphere.

“Kids and adults will love to watch the Spin In on Sunday afternoon and even try their hand at spinning. Maybe try some hand quilting or watch a demo on Fabric Dyeing or Applique. Drop in and celebrate with us at Fibre Fest this year!” Ridgway says.
