Campbell River Citizens on Patrol (COP) recently purchased Galaxy II tablets with funding provided by Vancouver Island InsuranceCentres (VIIC) – Campbell River branches.
Dogwood Branch Office Manager Kathy Ferreira said: “Vancouver Island InsuranceCentres was pleased to support Campbell River Citizens on Patrol and their significant involvement in working diligently to reduce crime within our community. Reduction in crime relates to fewer insurance claims, related victim trauma and allows the RCMP to focus on other priorities.”
“The new equipment will enable the organization to be much more efficient and productive in running license plates under the ICBC Stolen Auto Recovery Program,” said COP President Wilf Gagnon.
His organization will be down loading information from Crime Stoppers to the Galaxy tablets and that this information would be updated on a regular basis. The tablets will also be utilized in other COP activities including Speed Watch, Counter Attack, Lock it or Lose it and multiple agency road checks.
A secondary project, which earmarked funds to establish a COP website, was also funded by Vancouver Island InsuranceCentres.
Included in this new initiative will be an exploration of social media opportunities with the RCMP and Crime Stoppers.
