Students from Carihi’s Interact Club presented at the Campbell River Noon Rotary Club about their exciting plans, training and adventures for 2024 on May 15.

Interact is a high-school based social service club sponsored by Rotary that brings together young people ages 12-18 to develop leadership skills while working on local and international projects that exemplify Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self. There are 14,911 Interact Clubs in 145 countries with 342,953 members across the planet.

The goal of every Interact club is to do one local and one international project per school year, that makes a positive difference in any of Rotary’s seven areas of focus, (1. Environment. 2. growing local economies. 3. Supporting education. 4. Saving mothers and Children. 5. Clean water, sanitation and hygiene. 6. Fighting disease. 7. Promoting peace.)

Interact’s highlights for this school year include students attending Rotary Youth Leadership Training in Washington State in June, Rotary Adventures in Citizenship training in Ottawa in May, a successful fundraiser concert and event to raise $2,500 in funds for disaster relief in Libya in November, and organizing a bullying and discrimination response training for students and staff at Carihi this month.

If you’re a young person interested in making the world a better place and having incredible training and networking opportunities, Carihi Interact meets every Monday in Alexander Mader’s room (room F105) at lunch time (11:30-12). Everyone is welcome. For questions, ideas or to get involved, contact Tara Jordan at 250-202-7446.
