Campbell River's Fraternal Order of Eagles dole out $10,000 to local charities

Fraternal Order of Eagles #3097 Aerie and Auxiliary, the local Campbell River branch, brought in 12 organizations to present almost $10,000 to the group's hall at 1999 14th Ave. on Nov. 19.

The group uses various fundraising methods to get the money, including renting the two halls for parties, catering, beverage and burger nights, and more.

The Knights of Columbus Christmas Hamper fund received $1,400, and Wheels for Wellness, an organization that provides transportation to medical patients, received $500.

First Open Heart Society was given $400 to help with their operation in supporting patients recovering from heart surgery, as well as their families.

The Campbell River Head Injury Support Society will be able to put an additional $760 to good use and help people with head injuries secure housing and other supports.

The Eagles gave the Campbell River Food Bank $2,000 and the Campbell River Hospital Foundation $500.

Other groups include the Mental Health Recovery Partners - North Island ($500), St. Vincent de Paul Society ($500), MARS Wildlife Rescue Hospital ($1,000), Comox Valley Therapeutic Riding Society ($500), Dogwood Place Child & Youth Development Centre ($500), and the Salvation Army Centre of Hope ($2,000).
