The 25th annual Bowl for Breath takes place Feb. 9-10, at the Campbell River Bowling Centre.

The event helps to raise funds and promote the awareness of cystic fibrosis. More than $200,000 has been raised for Cystic Fibrosis Canada through the Bowl for Breath.

There have been tremendous developments to improve the quality of life for people with cystic fibrosis.

Unfortunately, a cure for this devastating, inherited disease still has not been found.

Cystic fibrosis is the most common fatal genetic disease affecting Canadian children and young adults. Cystic fibrosis causes a build-up of thick mucus in the lungs leading to severe respiratory problems.

Meanwhile, mucus and protein build-up in the digestive tract results in extreme difficulty in digesting and absorbing adequate nutrients from food.

Elementary and secondary students can participate in the Bowl for Breath. There are several shifts to choose from and each participant bowls two game.

Students can collect pledges or make a minimum $10 donation to cystic fibrosis. Adults are able to sign up a team of five bowlers, choice of five-pin or 10-pin, for Rock’n Bowl on the evening of Saturday, Feb. 9.

Bowling begins at 7 p.m. and costs $20 per person. Participants are eligible for all kinds of prizes, but special recognition and prizes (including entry into a draw for a helicopter ride for five, courtesy of West Coast Helicopters) will be given for outstanding fundraising efforts.
