The Tour de Rock riders fundraising for Cops for Cancer made a brief stop at Berwick by the Sea on Sept. 25 for a meet and greet with the building's residents.
The residents also gave the riders a $900 cheque for their cause.
"We held 50/50 draws, had a raffle to win tickets to go whale watching, and hosted summer activities," says Loren Butler, the community relations manager. "Pat Palmer, our active living manager, and her team did a fantastic job organizing all these fundraising initiatives."
The Tour de Rock riders have a target of fundraising $1,000,000, which will go fund life-saving pediatric cancer research and caring support programs like Camp Goodtimes. As of the time of writing (Sept. 25), they have raised 31 per cent of their goal (or $318,355.26).
"Our residents are passionate about donating to the Canadian Cancer Society, as we all know someone who has been touched by cancer whether it is self, family or friends," says Butler. "We are eager to start fundraising for next year's visit."
One of the riders, Chris Seeley, is from Campbell River.
