Moeller & Company Chartered Professional Accountants believe that John Howard KidStart can change children’s lives.

That’s why the team at Moeller & Company has decided to support a local child to participate in the mentoring program.

“KidStart provides an opportunity for children to gain and cultivate their own self identify and confidence, and has the ability to enable them to make their own decisions as to how they want to interact with the world. The need for Kidstart in our community is great. This is reflected in the long list of waiting children. The program requires and deserves support,” said Charlene Brown, a CPA, CA with the firm.

KidStart is offered by The John Howard Society of North Island and is Campbell River’s only one-to-one mentoring program. This volunteer-based program connects caring adults with children (ages 6-18) for three hours of fun per week. To become a Champion, donors choose from three levels of monthly sponsorship (Gold = $100/month, Silver = $50, Bronze = $25). Champions receive a profile of the child they are sponsoring (names are changed to protect privacy), annual updates, a Champion decal, and a tax receipt.

The 8-year-old boy that Moeller & Company’s staff are sponsoring has been through significant disruptions in his life and was in need of of a positive male role model. He waited more than two years for a mentor and was thrilled when he was finally matched.

“I had to wait a long time for my mentor but I’m glad he’s here now. My favourite thing that we do is pack a picnic and go to the beach,” he said.

John Howard KidStart relies on donations, grants, and gaming revenue to be able to support vulnerable Campbell River kids. Campbell River currently has 90 children on the waitlist for KidStart.
