Talk careers at Black Press Extreme Career Fair

The Black Press Extreme Career Fair will feature “Ted Talk”-style presentations at the Florence Filberg Centre throughout the day, with numerous companies taking the stage for 15-minute pitches, explaining the benefits of joining their respective teams.

Hub Barton Insurance, North Island Employment Foundations Society, Quality Foods, Westland Insurance, Home Depot, Marine Harvest and Black Press will all have individual presentations during the day.

North Island College and Discovery Community College will have their own stage times as well, presenting prospective students with resources to make a sound choice regarding any career training/education decisions.

“The presentations will be on the main stage at the Filberg Centre. We will have chairs in the area and people can get comfortable, and listen to the presentations, while the Career Fair is going on,” said Dave Hamilton, Black Press group publisher, North Island Division. “Each presentation will be 15 minutes, and it will be followed by 15 minutes of answering questions; engagement from the crowd. The presentations will begin at 9:30 and run throughout the day on stage. Meanwhile, there will be individual company booths set up throughout both levels of the Filberg Centre, as well as at the Native Sons Hall.”

The Black Press Extreme Career Fair will be the largest of its kind, in the Comox Valley.

Organizers are expecting 5,000 to 8,000 attendees, from Nanaimo to Port Hardy including local students, grads, unemployed and new career searchers looking for a better or new opportunity.

Black Press is marketing the Career Fair through its digital and print avenues Island-wide to properly address all Vancouver Island communities, attracting the most qualified, skilled professionals.

“We have a national recruitment department that centralizes its entire focus around best servicing B.C. businesses and colleges in advertising in our communities, to students and qualified recruits,” said Kristy O’Connor, Black Press manager of digital sales and Career Fair initiatives. “The Extreme Career Fair is just another great Black Press initiative.”

There will be local and long-distance shuttle services available to ensure anyone interested in attending the event can do so.
