Have you ever dreamed of doing a cycle trip through Europe or some other active travel adventure?

Anytime Fitness and Vision Travel are coming together on Feb. 28 to create a unique opportunity for the community by hosting a fun, informative evening presentation launching Get Fit and Travel.

Have you ever thought of doing a Bike and Barge trip, walking the famous Camino Trail,  doing a cycle trip somewhere, or climbing Mt. Everest, but stopped yourself thinking you couldn’t do it? Now there is a plan to have you succeed and fulfill your dreams with the launch of Get Fit and Travel.

Members of the community of all levels of fitness are invited to attend this event, especially those of you who want to achieve better health, love to travel and  enjoy walking, biking, hiking, exploring, trekking, cycling, boating, yoga, or kayaking.

Anytime Fitness and Vision Travel want to share with the community the opportunities available through active travel to achieve both your travel dreams and your health goals at the same time. It is possible to achieve good health and fulfill and achieve travel dreams at the same time doing an enjoyable physical activity.

The idea started last September when Yvonne Pelletier Paul escorted an inspiring group of people on a bike and boat holiday down the Danube River for eight days. The group of 57-71 year olds cycled an average of 45 km per day for a grand total of 230 km.

“I was the youngest of the group and the least fit,” Pelletier Paul said.

Some people were experienced cyclists, others were not and there was a variety of fitness levels.  The group prepared for months before hand, starting with a 10 km group ride in May.

“We worked our way up each week,” Pelletier Paul said. “Some people also did spin classes which were a big help and by the time September rolled around we were ready!”

The group headed off to Germany, after a couple of days in Munich,  and boarded the vessel, home for the next eight days. They cycled through four different countries, little villages, country lanes, ancient cities,  vineyards, stopping for lunch or wine tastings in quaint restaurants and learning about the history and culture of the places they cycled through from their fun and knowledgeable guide Jurgen.

Most of the group completed each and every ride, while others took a rest day here or there and relaxed on the river boat as it leisurely cruised down the river.

“What I loved was I got to witness and be a part of transformation and the pride and feeling of accomplishment for myself and this group of people,” Pelletier Paul said. “Some never knew themselves as cyclists before they left home but returning home they now know they are! It was so great to be a part of this.”

One lady said she was nervous about cycling in Campbell River before she did the trip and was in awe of how far she had come when she was cycling in Vienna.

“That is why I am excited to share this concept of travel with our community and the world, for people to stretch themselves to go to the next level, to be empowered in who they are, to have fun, create community, learn and explore another part of the world, expanding their horizons , while Getting Fit and Traveling,” Pelletier Paul said.

The guest speaker at the event will be Pat Rochon from Ottawa, the sales manager of World Expeditions, a leader in Active Travel around the world.

He will be doing a presentation on all different types of active holidays, some of which are great walks and treks of the world from walking through lavender fields to trekking Everest, worldwide cycling holidays from easy to Tour de France rides – guided or self-guided, Bike and Barge cruise holidays around the world, womens’ only travel and yoga travel.

Pelletier Paul of Vision Travel,  whose passion is travel and helping clients fulfill on their travel dreams will be launching two of her  escorted Active holidays in Europe for 2018, giving lots of time to achieve the fitness level required for the trips.

Lonnie Tkack and his team at Anytime Fitness are partnering with Vision Travel to set members up with a program that will have them succeeding on their fitness goals so they can fulfill their travel dreams.
