Bantam Hurricane girls earn bronze in Sooke
The Campbell River bantam girls battled back from an opening tournament loss to the Peninsula Panthers to claim a bronze medal in the Sooke Female Classic Tournament. The team netted two wins and one loss in round robin play and earned themselves a berth in the bronze medal game.
The bronze medal match opened with the Sooke team scoring late in the first period to lead the game 1-0. Despite many scoring opportunities and several goal posts being hit the Campbell River girls could not secure a goal until early in the third period when Lisa Lloyd snipped the tying goal at the 17 minute mark of the third period. The game would remain tied at the end of regulation time, forcing the team into a shootout situation.
Lloyd and Hayley Hunter scored for the Hurricane in the shootout and Jaydlin Spooner was rock solid in net to earn the Hurricanes a Bronze medal at the Sooke Tournament. Tournament MVP’s went to Jadylin Spooner, Jessica Grant, Lisa Lloyd and Cassidy Bellavance. This tournament proved to be a good ice breaker for the girls who are off to the Hayley Wickenheiser Tournament in Vancouver next weekend.
