Campbell River hosts Men's Island playdowns
The Campbell River Curling Club will be hosting the Men’s Island curling playdowns this weekend, December 17 – 19.
Ten of the top teams on the Island will compete to try and become one of the two teams that will qualify for the 2012 Canadian Direct Insurance Men’s Provincial.
There will be a total of nine draws over the weekend.
Draw times will be 9 a.m., 2 p.m. And 7 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The format is a triple knockout with four teams making it to the playoff.
Sunday morning the action heats up with three games on the ice: “A” Event winner vs. “B” Event winner with the first qualifier being awarded the winner of that game.
The loser will have one more chance to qualify again Sunday evening at 7 p.m. against the winner of the “C” Event.
The other two games at 9 a.m. will have the “C” Event semi-finals happening with the winners playing again at 2 p.m.
Four teams will be travelling from Victoria skipped by Wes Craig, Neil Dangerfield, Jody Epp, and Jay Tuson.
One team from Duncan will be competing skipped by Jason Montgomery.
Steve Waatainen will be bringing his team from Nanaimo.
From Parksville, Gord Twanow will be bringing his team to the competition and a team from Qualicum Beach will be skipped by Carey Sulz.
The Comox Valley Curling Club will have a team skipped by Wayne Harris and Campbell River will have one team in the competition skipped by Ron Schmidt.
The two teams that do qualify will head straight to the Canadian Direct Insurance Provincial playdown which is being hosted in Parksville, Feb. 6 – 12, 2012.
The winner of the Provincial will represent British Columbia at the Tim Horton’s Brier in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, March 3 – 12, 2012.
There will be some great curling right here in town this weekend so try to get down to the curling club to take some of it in.
There is great viewing both upstairs and downstairs, and the concession will be open all weekend downstairs and the lounge will be open upstairs.
