Last Thursday during the day and early Friday morning, Campbell River received about 10 cm of snow over an 18 hour period. Not a heavy snowfall but enough with moderate traffic to create treacherous driving conditions.
This snowfall accumulation seems to have gone largely unnoticed by local city road maintenance crews; by mid afternoon Friday only a few main streets had received any attention. For example Rockland Road beside Timberline Secondary/North Island College was untouched in a very icy condition.
In view of several years of steep property tax increases I believe the residents of Campbell River should receive more prompt snow clearing from our significant secondary streets.
What would happen if we had a one-metre snowfall over several days?
The absence of measureable snowfall during one year does not mean we should mothball our snowclearing equipment.
With our multimillion dollar city budget I would hope for more planning and attention to our basic needs, including a night shift.
We can do better.
