In 1941 he signed up for the Navy, where he became a member of the combined forces and worked on Assault Landing Crafts as a member of the The Second Canadian Flotilla L.C.A. under the command of the Royal Navy. He received medals for service in Greece, Africa, Italy, France, Germany and both Dieppe and Normandy. After the war he went into the store business, married and started his family in Drayton Valley, Alberta.

In 1966 Bill semi-retired to Cortes Island, B.C. before retiring to Campbell River in 1985. He remained in Campbell River until his Time of Rest.

A service will be held at Sutton's Campbell River Funeral Home on Saturday, February 16th, at 11:30 am. Reception to follow at the Campbell River Legion Hall.
