June 23, 1933 – October 21, 2016
Heaven welcomed a new angel on October 21st, 2016 when Thora Hood (nee Saville) passed away suddenly of a heart attack at the age of 83. Left behind and bereft are her husband of 63 years, Donald, her sister Kathy and her children Susan (Paul Reilly), Donna Volkart (Ed), Sharon Martin (Steve) and Richard (Diane Stack). She also leaves five grandchildren Jason, Alexander, Daniel, Erica and David and four step grandchildren Renée, Jordan, Randy and Mike as well as 3 great grandchildren (the third born just 3 days before she passed) and 4 step great- grandchildren.
Thora was first and foremost a generous, loving wife and mother whose greatest joy was her family and friends. Her children remember a mother who was kind, gentle and had all the time in the world for them. She had a smile for everyone and a hearty laugh to accompany her great sense of humour. When the neighbor next door needed home care, she willingly provided care and companionship for years. She was a regular attendee at Church of the Way and active in charities, helping to run bingo events as fund raisers for many years.
She was an avid sports fan, especially hockey, and competed in curling. She liked following professional sports (all of them!) on TV and had an amazing memory for players’ names. She loved music and was a talented singer, beginning with singing to her babies and grand babies and eventually competing successfully in Sweet Adelines. She enjoyed travelling and camping, and home for her was wherever family could enjoy each other’s company. She kept in touch faithfully with all the relatives, both home and abroad. She will be remembered by her friends as fun- loving, compassionate and, most of all, kind.
She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her generous spirit and would like, in lieu of flowers, donations made in her name to Friends of Schizophrenics.
No funeral will be held but there will be a private memorial for family members at a future date.
