October 31, 1934 - August 25, 2016

Rolf Kellerhals passed away at his beloved Quadra Island home in the presence of his family. Born in Switzerland, Rolf moved to Canada where he met and married Heather Stewart in 1960. Rolf had a long and successful career as a civil engineer specializing in the rivers, bridges, dams, and protection from natural hazards such as mudslides. His research uncovered impacts to the Peace-Athabasca Delta caused by damming the Peace River. Following his retirement from engineering, Rolf managed a woodlot and farm on Quadra Island. Rolf had a deep love of the outdoors that led him on mountaineering trips in BC, Switzerland and remote Spitzbergen. Closer to home, Rolf volunteered for many years with the Mitlenatch Field Naturalists. Rolf believed in fair dealing in all things and in treating all people with respect. Rolf was a loving husband, parent, and grandparent. He was always enthusiastic to share and pass on his practical engineering wisdom and his love of nature to his children and grandchildren. Rolf is survived by wife Heather, daughter Erika, son Markus (Tanya), and four grandchildren as well as brother Peter and extended family in Switzerland.
