Roger Williams, 1945 ~ 2008

It is with much regret that we announce the passing of Roger Williams after a brave battle against cancer.

Roger passed away on Sunday March 16th in Parksville, BC. Roger was born March 4th, 1945 in Halifax NS and moved to Sooke BC in 1970, where he went to work at Sooke Forest Products. Roger also tried his hand at running a business, opening Sooke's first sporting goods store, Bluenose Sporting Goods. He was an active member of Sooke Volunteer Fire Dept. for nineteen years and coached both minor hockey and softball as well as serving as president of the Sooke Softball Assoc. Roger raised two sons in Sooke before getting remarried in 1987. Roger and his new bride, Jane moved to Tahsis to follow work, where they soon gave birth to Roger's third child, a lovely daughter. Roger continued to be an enthusiastic community member in his new village, joining the Volunteer Fire Dept. and help organizing several years of the Great Walk. Roger was a devoted member of the Lions Club and spent many years of his life giving everything he could to every community he lived in. Roger is predeceased by his parents, Harold and Evelyn Williams and is survived by his sister Joan, wife Jane, daughter Courtney, sons, Jeff and Sean, daughters in law, Pam and Joanne and Grandchild Emily Louise. Roger will be sadly missed by all his family and friends as he always made you feel as if thje sun would never set on a great day. There will be a celebration of Roger's life at the Lions Den in Parksville, 241 Moilliet St. on Saturday, March 22nd at 1:00pm. No flowers please, donate to the charity of your choice.
