Lagos (Murphy)


Murphy passed away peacefully on Thurs. July 10th, at C.R. Hospital, with family by his side. Born in Vancouver on July 5 1933, Murphy was the son of the late James and Ivy Lagos.

Predeceased by his brother Pat and sister Corrine. Murphy is survived by his two remaining brothers Tom (Margeret) and Larry (Sandra). Murphy is also survived by his own four children Teresa Burgoyne (David), Garry Lagos (Debbie), Wayne Lagos ( Ginette), and Linda Gallagher (Howie),his grandchildren Tobin, Amy (Teresa) Sarah, Michael (Garry), Tyson, Mallory, Hailey (Wayne), Jericho, Jordan (Linda) and great grandchildren Taylor (Tyson and Jayla (Hailey).

Murhpy was a well known and loved character. He lived on Quadra Island as a youngster and for most of his adult life. Many friends and family remember his sense of humor,generosity and every day kindnesses. He was a cook and deckhand on several fishing boats and ran his own "no charge" coffee and B.S. stop by the ferry for all who knew him. Murphy was a modest man with many friends. He began his career as a commercial fisherman as a youngster with his father James, then his uncle, Ben Lagos and spent over thirty years as a respected cook and deckhand on the "Western Commander" with Jim Inrig.

Murphy made many friends during is fishing career and in his retirement. He was well known for bringing treats to all his favorite folks around town. Always ready with a quick joke or comeback, Murphy could be counted on to lighten your day.He will be dearly missed.

As per Murphy's final request there will be no formal memorial, however friends may join in a last drink to Murphy and share some tales with family and friends at the Campbell River legion Thursday July 24 4pm to 7pm.
