Passed away peacefully (his wife and daughters by his side) after a long courageous battle with cancer. Pat loved life and never once gave up hope or happiness. He always had that Irish gleam in his eye. He is remembered with much love by his wife Valerie and blended family: sons Michael John Ryan (Janie), Robert Scott Ryan, Mark Lazerte (Heather Booker), daughters Sherri Martin (Tom), Shannon Postle (Dave), and grandchildren Bobby, Michael, Kevin, Ryan, Danika and Grace. His sisters Colleen Chapman (Dick), Sherry Morrissette (Roger), brothers Del (Doedy), Ron (Lex), and numerous nieces and nephews. Pat was an avid curler at Toronto, Campbell River and Duncan Rinks until the beaches of Mazatlan lured him away in the winters. He and Val lived life to the fullest and travelled extensively. Family, good friends, a margarita and a chance to stick his toes in the sand and feel the sun on his back were among his favourite things. Pat was a plumbing contractor in Ontario and Campbell River, but his best-loved decade came after retirement in the years spent tending the RV Park in Browns Bay, where taking care of business included: his love of chatting with new friends, playing pool and card games, music and dancing in the clubhouse, and BBQ-ing. Also camping with his grandkids was a joy and created many happy memories. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the wonderful care given to Pat by home care nurses in Campbell River, Duncan and Victoria; and Dr. Dan Buie and Dr. Grant McLean; also Dr. Neil Boyle and nurse Rose in hospital. A memorial service to celebrate Pat’s life will be held at University of Victoria Interfaith Chapel, (Parking Lot 6), Saturday, June 24 at 11:00a.m. In lieu of flowers donations if desired, may be made to the Canadian Red Cross who provided him with comfort and mobility in the last weeks of his life.
