Maurice George of Campbell River passed away at Campbell River & District Hospital on Monday, June 29, 2009, aged 85. Predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Doreen and his brothers Victor and Albert. He is survived and will be dearly missed by his son Garry (Trudy); grandchildren Greg and Kristin as well as his sister Eileen; Brothers Yves, Henry and Paul and sister Jan. Maurice was a proud veteran of World War II serving with the Canadian Army – Calgary Highlanders and fought at Normandy on D-day. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Up until a year and a half ago, he spent all of his life on the Lower Mainland, living for some time at the George Derby Veteran’s Home in Burnaby, who were very good to him. Maurice was particularly devoted to his grandchildren who played a special part in his life. His family would like to thank all the staff at New Horizons Care Home who cared for him so lovingly, especially Tracy, Francine, Nicki and Tanya and all the staff in the special care unit. Thanks as well to ER nurses Cheryl, Gord, Bev, Maureen, Joanne and Jo, as well as Dr. DeBruin, Dr. Veerapin, 3S nurses, Lucas, Neva and all of the other hospital staff that cared for him. Special thanks to friends Sandi, Neil and Edie and the staff at George Derby.

A service of remembrance will take place on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 12:00 pm from Branch 137, Royal Canadian Legion, 301, 11th Avenue, Campbell River, BC V9W 4G2, where donations in Maurice’s memory would be grateful received. Arrangements entrusted to Island Funeral Services, Elk Falls Cremation and Reception Centre.
