Born May 18, 1963, in Nottingham, England, died on Sunday, Aug. 27, in Victoria General Hospital following a short illness. Matt is predeceased by his wife Sherri and survived by his parents David and Elizabeth Plumtree of Red Deer, Alta., his brother Daniel (Shona) of Calgary and his step-son Coleman of Calgary. Matt graduated from the journalism program at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and then embarked on a newspaper career that took him to Brooks, Alta., Whistler, Squamish, Chilliwack, Campbell River and Courtenay. Matt was a talented, award-winning journalist and a keen observer of life. He loved to camp and to take long walks. Matt was a sports fan through and through. He played golf, tennis and soccer, and he never missed a Formula 1 race. Matt was a gentle and kind man whose humour brought smiles to all who knew him. He was also a true lover of animals and his family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the SPCA. A celebration of life service will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 6, from 6-8 p.m., at the Oyster Bay Resort hall, 4357 S. Island Hwy.
