Mary Francis Piercy

Mary Francis Piercy (nee Juckes) passed away peacefully in the Royal Jubilee Hospital after a brief illness, on Saturday May 9, 2009. She was born in Central Butte, Saskatchewan on September 10, 1919, but spent most of her childhood growing up in Melville, Saskatchewan.

Mary moved to Victoria as a young mother where she and her husband, Sheldon, built a house and home near the Gorge. A pioneering woman among her peers, Mary returned to the workforce soon after her children were all in school. She was especially proud of her many years of service at DND Dockyard. Early in retirement she made more friends through her bed & breakfast. After living in Courtenay, BC for a number of years, Mary moved near her son in Campbell River, BC.

Sheldon, her husband of 56 years as well as her brother Gordon Juckes and sisters Beatrice Juckes and Edna Sumner predeceased her. Mary will be lovingly missed and forever remembered by her children, Ken (Tricia), Norm (Marg), Lorraine Piercy and Albie (Terry), nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and extended families. She will also be lovingly missed by her sisters Marjorie McKellar, Peb McCardell, Edith Friemark, Isabelle Kotzma, Audrey Duffy and Arlene Stapleton and her younger brother Angus Juckes.

Mary will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She will be remembered for her honesty, integrity, and her fierce loyalty and unconditional love to family and friends. She will also be remembered for her determination and strength and one who always championed the underdog.

A memorial service will be held in Victoria at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Drive for family and friends to honour and remember her at 11:00 am on Monday, May 25th.A reception will follow at Albie and Terry Piercy’s, 4041 Cumberland Road. In lieu of flowers
