February 17th, 1931 - February 22nd, 2017

We are deeply saddened to announce the loss of our mother, Maria Van Zeeland. She passed away peacefully at the Campbell River Hospital with her family by her side.

Maria was the devoted wife of Martin and they happily celebrated 54 years of marriage. The family immigrated to Canada and settled in Campbell River in 1966 from their home country of the Netherlands. Mom was truly a caring, funny and hard working lady and we were blessed with an amazing traditional upbringing. Although she was homesick for her family she left behind, you would never know it. Maria had incredible inner strength and determination. She taught us to love each other and most importantly to love and have compassion for others. Her biggest joy was her family and friends. She always enjoyed a coffee and visit. Many of our friends and our children’s friends would endearingly call her ‘Oma’. She was just that to everyone who met her.

Maria is survived by her husband Martin, her children Marcel (Patty), Helen (Casey) and Laurens, as well as her sisters Anneke and Jo. Maria was Oma to Megan (James), Lucas, Michelle, Jamie and Jack. She was also Great-Oma to Tieva and Briggs.

We will all miss you dearly and we will think of you often and remember the laughter and love we shared.

Romans 14:8 For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s.

With much gratitude we thank the CR Hospital Nurses and Staff, Dr. Meckin and Dr. Allen.

Dad…especially thank you, for always taking such beautiful care of our Mom. We love you.

May you go to the Lord in Peace and Rest.

With much love…your kids,

Marcel, Helen and Laurens
