Laurel Ann DOERSAM

Doersam,

Laurel Ann

September 29th, 1954 -

October 23rd, 2006

Our beloved Laurel Ann ran away into the starlight of the early morning surrounded by her adoring husband, children, mother, brothers and sisters.  She leaves behind her knight in shining armour (and mountain man!) Rick Nathorst, her children Chelsea (David) Chenery, Jessica Wakelyn (Dallas), Brett Wakelyn (Kelsey) and Breanna Nathorst, mother Elsie Doersam, brothers Jim (Vivi) Doersam and Gerald Doersam, sisters Maureen (Jeff) Hasbrouk and Darleen (Dave) Pike, grand-daughter Ava Chenery and many beloved nieces and nephews. Laurel will be remembered as a brilliant, strong, goofy, beautiful, exuberant, kind and compassionate woman who loved fiercely until her last breath.  She was an inspiration to so many friends and colleagues, and will be missed tremendously by all.

Laurel was our “Mama Bear”, a nurse with a passion for health promotion, an intensely proud parent and avid runner who completed the Victoria marathon in 2000, the same year she graduated from the MALT program at Royal Roads.  She loved running at Rithet’s Bog with her daughters.  She loved being a grandma and was so beautiful at it.  Despite having absolutely no concept of rhythm and an inability to carry a tune, one of her most treasured activities was dancing in the kitchen with her family to hillbilly tunes.  Laurel was a belly laugher.  She lit up the room with her enormous spirit and had an uncanny knack for seeing the very best in everyone she met. Laurel has too many achievements to name here as she was a dynamo, but her most recent accomplishment has been the birth and nurturing with her children and husband of the award-winning Elite Earth-Friendly Cleaners at 1019 Cook St.  Laurel transformed Elite into a small business with a big heart that has had a huge impact in the sphere of environmental sustainability and stewardship.

A celebration of Laurel’s life will be held at 907 Pandora Avenue at the Alix Goolden Hall on Thursday, October 26th at 3pm .  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Land Conservancy
