June 1938 - June 2017

With great sadness we announce that June Marilyn McLean passed away on June 11, 2017. June leaves her loving family: Blair, her husband of 57 years, son Kevan, daughter Deanne (Jason), son Jordan (Melissa) and precious grandchildren, Mandi and Owen. She will be sadly missed by her brothers, Evan (Yvonne) Oakley of Victoria, B.C. and Lorne (Diane) of Abbotsford, B.C. and her nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Everett and Anne Oakley. June was born and raised in Victoria, B.C. She graduated from Oak Bay High School and attended Victoria College, and The University of Victoria. After 2 years teaching in Prince George, June and Blair moved to Campbell River in 1962. June was an outstanding and dedicated teacher. During her teaching career, she taught in many of the elementary schools in Campbell River and was a teacherlibrarian before retiring. She was an accomplished artist; her bird and scenic paintings reflected her caring and compassionate nature. She was an avid reader and loved to garden and travel. June and Blair lived in Taupo, New Zealand for several months each year for over 10 years. In later life June was an avid armchair golf and curling enthusiast. June was a warm, kind, patient and sensitive lady, a loving wife and mother and devoted to her two grandchildren. Heartfelt thanks to ‘The Birthday Girls’ group for years of special times together. And a special thanks to Dr. Douglas and Dr. Jennifer Grace who managed to extend June’s life for an extra two more satisfying years. A celebration of June’s life will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 145 Simms Rd, Campbell River on June 26, 2017 @ 3PM. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in June’s memory to a charity of your choice.
