John Oakley

September 27, 1935 – Dec 26, 2011

Sadly, on boxing day the Oakley clan lost one of its strongest patriarchs. With his wife, daughters and son at his side. John Oakley passed quietly away at Campbell River Hospital.

He is survived by many loved ones: his wife of 52 years, Carol, son Dennis (Joan), daughters Donna (Eric), Darlene (Jim); his brothers Peter (Joan) and David (Barbara) and grandchildren Michael (Jenna), Justin, Ryan, Brandon (Sarah) and Alicia (Cameron).

First and foremost John was a dedicated & loving family man referred to as “Papa Bear”. In his youth he was a member of the British Army between 1954-56. He followed his national service with a Canadian adventure. Arriving in BC in 1957. As a hardworking union member he spent his career as a glazier but has enjoyed his retirement with Carol being a keen naturalist keeping watch for feathered friends, wildlife and tenderly caring for his rescued plants and flowers in the garden.

He will be sorely missed and forever loved.

John Oakley was born in Hinckley, Nottingham England on Sept. 27th, 1935 to Cyril and Hilda Oakley. There will be private family arrangements.
