April 11, 1944 – September 2, 2017
John passed away peacefully with family at his side after a valiant battle with cancer. Survived by his wife Mary (Bruon), daughters Kathy (Mike) Little, Lori (Dan) Cookson, Heather Nicholson (Marty Richards); grandchildren John Michael Nicholson, Stacey Nicholson, Megan Cookson, Josh Cookson, Zach Little and Nick Little; sisters Molly (John) Kewley, Margaret (Dan) Thran, Fran (Mike) Hancock. Predeceased by parents and sister Joy (Bob) Coveney.
Born in Cumberland Hospital to Jack and Betty Harrison, John grew up in Royston, and met his wife at school in Cumberland. They married in 1964 and spent most of their 53 years together in Campbell River. John worked at Elk Falls Pulp and Paper Mill until his retirement in 2000 when he moved easily into his favorite work and recreation as an avid, almost full time golfer at Storey Creek Golf Club.
He served 25 years as volunteer firefighter at No. 1 Hall. Other favorite pastimes included, traveling, hunting, fishing, fastball, slow pitch, curling, and bowling. He loved competing and good sportsmanship. Generally, he was a quiet man; but you always knew where he stood. He will be missed.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your charity of choice. There will be a celebration of John’s life on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 2pm at Storey Creek Golf Club.
