Long-time Campbell River resident, died Sunday, Sept. 29 peacefully at Campbell River District General Hospital.

He was born in 1919 in Surrey, England and emmigrated to British Columbia in 1957. He served in the Royal Navy as a submariner during WWII and received the distinguished Service Cross. An author of eight books, he recently re-published a book first written in the 1970’s, “A Small and Charming World” which was, for a number of weeks, on the BC best seller list. For many years, he worked as a social worker in Northern BC and Vancouver Island.

John will be greatly missed by his wife Lorna of 55 years, and his son, Simon of Abbotsford, and daughter Julia, of Campbell River.

A “Celebration of Life” open house will be held 2pm-4pm Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Gibson residence, at 687 Erickson Road. For information phone Julia at 923-2089.
