BAVIS,

Joan

1913-2008

After 95 years of life, Joan passed away peacefully August 1 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox with her children Murray, Donna Salikin, and Paul at her side. Daughter of C.W. and Irene Stirling, she was born April 28, 1913 at Nelson, B.C.

She was predeceased by Gus, her partner of 65 years. She will be dearly missed by her children and their spouses Patti, Joe, and Cindy; grandchildren Robin and Clayton Macdonald, Kevin and Steven Salikin, Lisa and Matthew Bavis; great grandchildren Payton and Taylor Macdonald, and Ashley and Adam Salikin.

Joan grew up in Saanich, B.C. and married husband Emerson A. (Gus) in 1939. Joan and Gus began their life together in Port Renfrew. Later they moved to the Nimpkish Valley and Anutz Lake before settling in Woss for 33 years, where they forged many lasting friendships, developed a passion for gardening, and spent many hours on family outings to the forests and waters of the Valley. Between loving and caring for her three children, Joan also made time to devote many hours to community volunteer work. With retirement the couple moved to Union Bay, and then Courtenay. After Gus’ passing in 2003, Joan moved to the Casa Loma retirement community where she made several close friends, and always eagerly anticipated visits from relatives. Kerry, Mary and Jane were also special friends and helpers during Joan’s sunset years.

True to her wishes, no services are planned. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice is suggested. The Canadian Cancer Society was a favourite of Joan’s.
