BERRY,

Janette (Jan)

Born October 20, 1944 at Halifax, England, Jan died June 9, 2008 at Erskine, Scotland after a valiant fight with cancer.  Jan is survived by mother Betty Fingland, brothers Charles (Diana), David (Sheila), children Diane Luoma (Terry), Martin Bernard (Tina), Pam Ledgister (Rob), and grandchildren Stephanie & Alysha Bernard, Kathleen & Emily Luoma, Ethan, Makenna, Elijah & Izaiah Ledgister.

Jan grew up in Scotland, Nigeria, West and North Africa, and lived in Northern Ireland before immigrating to Canada in 1968.  She moved to Campbell River in 1989 and returned to Scotland to be with her mom in 1999.

Jan was an avid gardener, and was always happy to share her knowledge.  She was trained as a teacher, and taught in Northern Ireland and Saskatchewan. She enjoyed living and teaching a back to basics lifestyle.  Jan attended the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Campbell River and, for several years, was active with Rivercity Players. She enjoyed crafting, and, in recent years, quilting.  One of her recently made quilts was dedicated to the McMillan Cancer Support program, and it is hanging in the Renfrew, Scotland library where the program is held.  Jan loved children, especially her grandchildren, and she was a good friend to many people.

A memorial service will be held at Campbell River Baptist Church, 260 South Dogwood Street on Tuesday, June 17th, at 1:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cancer Society would be welcomed.
