October 12, 2006

BREUKERS,

Hubert

September 13, 1928 -October 12, 2006

My Husband,  Our Father and Opa was taken home suddenly after a brief illness. He had just returned from a trip to Europe to visit his brother and sisters whom he hadn’t seen for 29 years when he took ill. He fought hard to stay but in the end God mercifully took him home.

He is loved by his wife of 52 years Tina who was with him to the end.  He is survived by his four sons Robert (Maria) Coquitlam, Richard (Karen), Tim(Carrie),  Paul all in Campbell River and his daughter GiGi (Jim) Lopez from Saratoga, Calif.

His Grandchildren Simon, Jennika, Jessica, Kandace, Cody, Aaron, Nicholas, Marcella, Taylor and Emma called him Opa and he will be missed.

In Europe he is survived by his brother Joep  (Mia) and is his sisters Anne, José and Gerde all of the Netherlands. He had a large extended family of nephews and nieces whom he visited while in Europe.

The Breukers family came to Campbell River in 1969 from Alberta and quickly came to love the mountains and the ocean.  Hubert found work at Elk Falls and stayed till he fulfilled a dream and bought Lana Dee Style Shop in 1978. Tina and Hubert operated the store until his retirement some 15 years ago.  An opportunity to buy a sailboat many years ago led to the fulfillment of another dream for Hubert and Tina. They sailed the local waters from the Broughtons to Princess Louisa Inlet making many friends along the way. They became members of the local yacht club with Hubert being the treasurer for a time. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and Honorary President of the Chuk Wow Club and also Secretary of Sorts at the Republic of Vancouver Island. He was an avid photographer and loved to putter in his garden till the end.

A Celebration of Life will take place at 1:00 pm on Sunday, October 22 at the Maritime Heritage Museum on the Island Highway.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that a donation in his name be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C. and Yukon, P.O. Box 741, Campbell River or Marine Parks Forever, c/o Campbell River Yacht Club, #2-9082 Clarkson Drive, Black Creek, B.C. V9J 1B3.
