Penner – Helen “Lena” Ester

May 13, 2010

A resident of the Extended Care Unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital for the last 8 years passed away peacefully Thursday, May 13th, 2010 after spending the afternoon enjoying the sunshine with some of her family members outside on the patio.

Predeceased by her loving husband Jack and 10 of her siblings, is survived and will be dearly missed by her sister Patricia Chester and brother Art (MJ) Enns as well as her children Mel (Shirley) Penner, Bev (Neil) Dueck, Donna (Dave) Emmerson, Dale (Roberta) Penner and Sherrie (Blackie) Pawluck: 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

She belonged to Sunnydale golf course for many years and was an avid golfer. She loved being out in the sunshine and fresh air. Also spent many hours listening to music or watching TV as she knit special things for her family and friends. And of course, she loved her scratch tickets which she was usually pretty lucky with.

She will be greatly missed by her family as well as many friends. She loved life and enjoyed as much of it as she possibly could. The family would like to give a special thank you to all the staff at the Extended Care Unit for being there for their mother, they took very good care of her over the years and became a big part of our family. Would also like to thank Dr. Musgrave.

A service of remembrance in celebration of her life will take place Saturday, June 5th at 1:00 at the Comox Valley Funeral Home, Cremation and Reception Centre, 1101 Ryan Road with Barbara Enns officiating, reception to follow in the Garden Room of the funeral home. If friends so wish, donations made in Helen’s memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, P.O. BOX 1225, Comox, BC V9M 7Z8 would be appreciated.
