Harley was born in Estevan, Saskatchewan in 1927.
He moved to Port Alberni, B.C., in 1949 where he worked in logging and house construction, before moving to Campbell River in 1963. Harley was a world-class target shooter. He worked as an official at the 1976 Olympics and shot with the Canadian team at a long-range shooting competition in Bisley, England. He was very involved with the original and present Campbell River Gun Club.
In Campbell River, Harley worked at a steam engineer at the pup mill, then started his own furnace repair business and eventually became part owner of a local heating and sheet metal business from which he retired in 1985. He hunted, fished and camped all over the island and mainland, and spent many winters in Baja, Mexico; fishing and exploring. He also traveled overseas.
Harley will be sadly missed by Sheila, his wife and companion of over 30 years; his three daughters Lynn (Mick), Nancy (Wayne), and Lori (Andreas); six grandchildren and four great grandchildren as well as four step-daughters Kenzie (Paul), Susi (Aaron), Trish (Ventura), Melody (Randy), two step-granddaughters, his sister Evelyn (Matt), sister-in-law Ethel, brother-in-law John and former wife Jean. He was previously deceased by his sister Helen and brother Doug.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the Eagles Hall between 1 and 4pm
