Hereditary Chief Captain George Quocksister Sr.

August 2, 1930 - May 25, 2017

Hereditary Chief Captain George Quocksister Sr. (Kwin Kwa Las), Laichkwiltach Nation, Ahwahoo Tribe, made his passage to the Creator on May 25th, 2017.

Captain George was born on August 2, 1930 in Campbell River, BC. He lived in Campbell River his entire life and was an extraordinarily successful commercial fisherman with a career that spanned 72 years. With his knowledge of the construction industry, he not only built his own houses but he mentored and instilled a strong work-ethic in his children and grandchildren. He had a very generous nature and the door of the Quocksister house was open to all. Although his fishing season has officially closed, he’ll be brailing all the way from Camp Point through the Narrows forever...

We take comfort in knowing Captain George joins his predeceased wife Elizabeth Gordon (Glendale) Quocksister, son Chief Russell Kwakseestahla, and his grandmother who raised him, Queen Mary Kwawkseestahla. He will also be reunited with his father Hereditary Chief John Quocksister, mother Susan (Assu) Quocksister, six brothers: Herman, Harvey, Thomas, Louis, John and Joseph; and six sisters: May Henderson, Edna Tremeer, Lucy Price, Violet Duncan, Mabel Shade, and Delavina Louis.

Captain George is survived by his nine children Carol Bear, George Jr., Maria White, Ida (A. James Sr.) Johnny, Lizabeth Wilson, Louella Serhan, Rock, Alana (Gregory) Anderson along with 20 Grandchildren and 26 Great Grandchildren. He also leaves behind his Brother David (Joanne) Quocksister, Sister-in-Law Frances Quocksister and numerous nephews, nieces and extended family. Although not residing together, but still residing in each other’s hearts, his C/L wife Candy-Lea Chickite, her children: Ronnie (Lennai) and Eddie (Tory) Chickite and their families.

A Celebration of Life for our patriarch will be held on Thursday June 1st, 2017 at 1:00 pm at the Thunderbird Hall in Campbell River, BC.
