George Hall, June 23 1928
to August 20th 2008.
Born in Wheatley Hill, County Durham, England, George
started work at the age of
fourteen at Blackhall Colliery on the Durham coalfield.
He married his wife Margaret in 1953, they immigrated to
Canada in 1970, with their three children, coming to Grande Cache Alberta, where George continued to mine coal.
They eventually settled in the Crowsnest Pass, Alberta.
In 1982 George moved to
Nanaimo, BC to work in a small coal mine there. This was the end of George’s mining career after a serious accident in which he was buried under rock for two hours. George and
Margaret finally retired in Black Creek BC, where George raised chickens and grew tomatoes and dahlias. George spent many happy years in Black Creek, but has now gone to his heavenly home. He is survived by Margaret, his wife of 55 years, his son Barry (Karen), daughter Janet (Doug) and son Graeme (Angela), nine
grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He will also be missed by his twin sister Sheila, brother Jimmy and cousin Jean in England, along with many other relative and friends. We will be celebrating George’s life at the Mennonite Brethren Church, 7898 Island Highway in Black Creek, 10:00 am August 30th reception to follow at Halbe Hall in Black Creek.
