May 29, 1943 – June 15, 2017

Sadly, on Thursday, June 15, 2017, after a short stay in hospital, Fred took his last ride and left us to take the open road to Heaven.

Fredrick Lloyd Cleveland was born May 29, 1943 in Vancouver, BC to the late William Harold Cleveland and the late Bertha Mildred Lund. He was later (1962) adopted by Walter Ivan, second husband to Bertha. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sandi Ivan (neé Embleton); sister-in-law Trina Soltys (Edward); niece Tascha Jones (Ryan) and their two daughters Brooklyn and Gabriella; nephew Kent Soltys (Candace) and their son Kaiden. He also leaves step-brother Dutch Bowen (Barb) and many, many friends.

Fred spent his school years between Wood Fibre and Campbell River. At the age of 15, Fred began his career in Campbell River in the logging industry, mainly with MacMillan Bloedel. He was very proud of being a faller, log scaler and truck driver. He enjoyed his work and only retired when logging injuries took a toll on his body.

He was a life-long Harley and hot rod enthusiast and kept any vehicle he ever owned in pristine condition. Anyone was allowed to look at, but not ‘touch’ (or breathe near) his shining beauties! He was well known in Campbell River for being fastidious - it was rumored that his knick-name was ‘Fussy Fred’!

Over the years Fred had many other hobbies which he never failed to approach with 100% interest. The hobbies included black powder shooting, reading - especially anything with historical interest and old movies - he was always a great trivia partner for this category.

Fred was a good neighbour and friend - always lending a hand whenever needed and ready to share a drink, good stories and a laugh. Listening to him tell a story or give his opinion on any topic definitely made for ‘colourful’ conversation.

His family sends a heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Campbell River Hospital emergency room and at 3 North for their care and consideration of Fred.

He will be loved and missed forever. His legacy will not be forgotten. Ride on, Fred.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Campbell River, on Friday, June 30 at 1 pm. Reception to follow in the church hall.
