DRIESSEN,

Frederica Margaretha

Maria (Frieda)

June 10, 1925 – May 15, 2008

Frieda was a loving and deeply loved aunt to Ed Silkens and his wife Thelma, and to Rose-Marie Silkens who predeceased her in February of this year. She was also predeceased by her sisters Dorothy Silkens and Miep Bovee, and is survived by her brother Theo, his wife Mia, relatives and friends in the Netherlands, and her brother Harry and his family in Australia.

The fourth of five children, Frieda was born and spent her childhood in Thorn, Netherlands. As a teenager she experienced the enemy occupation of her country and the devastating effects of World War II including the loss of her parents. In 1953 she emigrated to Canada with her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Hubert Silkens, and their children Edgar and Rose-Marie.

With characteristic determination and courage, Frieda immediately adopted her new home and never looked back. She was an integral part of the Silkens family throughout their moves to various spots in BC and Alberta and their permanent location in Sayward. She lived at Sayward until late 2006.

“A sweet lady,” Frieda was pleasant, considerate, hardworking and merry. She met life with humour and loved to laugh as she recounted stories. She was a good judge of human nature and had an understanding heart. To her family she was totally devoted, supportive and generous, and she was a very special person to Ed and Rose-Marie and also to Thelma.

Frieda did not wish a service or gathering. Her memory will always be cherished by those who loved her. Welterusten, Fonsy. Dank je wel voor alles.
