May 10, 1929 – November 18, 2016

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, Opa and friend, Frank Johann Thummerer, who passed away peacefully in his home on November 18th, 2016.

He will be lovingly remembered by his family, his wife Marie of 58 years and his two children John and Nancy along with John’s wife Cindy and their children Sean, Cassandra, Derrick, and Konrad and Nancy’s daughter Chelsea. He is predeceased by his two older sisters; Anna Neufeld and Rosa Stich, and survived by his two younger sisters Gerta Christl and Ria Tjart.

Frank was born May 10th, 1929 in Durrmaul, Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1951. Frank married Marie on November 15th, 1958, and they recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. Formally trained as a shoemaker in Germany, after coming to Canada, Frank found employment in the BC logging industry working for Elk River Timber. Then he worked at the Elk Falls Pulp Mill for 28 years and 8 months before retiring in 1989.

Frank loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He had many adventures and some of our fondest memories will forever be the hilarious stories he would tell when things didn’t go as planned. He loved to laugh and brought laughter to others.

Our family sends a special thank you for the wonderful treatment and care from Dr. Reggler who worked hard so that Frank could stay at home and live a comfortable life during his last years with his illness of heart and kidney failure. We also wish to thank the nursing staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital and the Comox Valley Home Care health workers who spent countless hours caring for Frank so that he could enjoy his final days.
