FRIIS

Frances Elsie

January 16, 1917 – June 10, 2008

Frances Friis passed away suddenly, but peacefully, at Cowichan District Hospital on June 10, 2008, at the age of 91. She was born in Bella Coola, B.C., on January 16, 1917. Soon after her family returned to Holberg B.C., where she spent her childhood years. It was there that she met Henning Friis, and the two were wed in 1937. They moved on to Port Alice in 1940, and raised a family of three boys and one daughter. After retirement in 1970, Frances and Henning moved to Quatsino, B.C. where they spent 17 quiet years at their oceanfront home. In 1987 they made one last move to Crofton B.C., where they could be closer to their family.

Frances is predeceased by her husband Henning, and sister Jennie Sharbo. She is lovingly remembered by her four children Edward (Jan), Paul (Penny), David, and Laura. She also leaves behind two grandchildren, Andrew (Lorianne), and Tina (Alvin Leischner), five great grandsons, Christopher and Adam Friis; Richard (Marie), Daniel, and Jason Leischner, and one great great granddaughter Amber (Richard and Marie).

The family would like to thank all those who cared for Frances at the Oceanview Retirement Home in Crofton, where she spent her remaining five years. Thanks to Burt Nydahl, Nancy Mobley, and the home support staff and caregivers, who affectionately referred to Frances as “Granny Frannie”. Special thanks also to Dr. Manhas for the years of care and support he provided. Lastly, thanks to the Crofton Fire Department first responders, EMS paramedics, the emergency staff at Cowichan District Hospital, and Dr. Gallagher, for making Frances’s final hours as comfortable as possible.

A memorial service will be held at First Memorial Funeral Services, at 375 Brae Road, Duncan B.C., on July 9, 2008, 1 PM.
