Evelyn Russell

September 20, 1922 – May 28, 2016

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Evelyn passed away at the Campbell River hospital on May 28, 2016 with her family and friends by her side.

Evelyn was predeceased by her husband John Russell, daughter Evelyn Von Melville, son Ian Russell and sister Vera Boscoe. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Lynn Russell, grandchildren Brent Melville (Karen) Kim Woods (David), John Russell (Nicole), Angela Leduc (Andrew) and Steven Tucker (Amy) as well as 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Evelyn was very passionate about her family and friends.

Evelyn emigrated from Scotland in 1957 and she and John started their new life in Port Alice, BC. They moved to Campbell River in 1965 to pursue new opportunities and to raise their family. Evelyn worked in retail for many years until she and her close friend Doris Samson became the successful co-owners of Flair Jewellers. Evelyn eventually retired from the business, so that she and John could indulge their love of travel. No question, she and John lived life to the fullest.

Over the years, Evelyn was involved with the Campbell River Legion, Eastern Star, United Church Ladies’ Auxiliary and other organizations. She was always ready to help in any way, with her upbeat personality and the biggest smile on her face.

A funeral service will be held at the Campbell River United Church, 415 Pinecrest Rd. on Friday, June 10, 2016 at 1:00pm with tea to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her honour to the BC Cancer Foundation online at www.bccancerfoundation.com or toll free 1.888.906.2873.
