A dear little lady past away peacefully October 23 2009. Elsie (Wilson) Mills was born July 15, 1917 on Mills Road, a real Saanich pioneer. She was a Mother, Grandmother and a Great Grandmother.

Elsie and Cyril were married in her parents home on Vincent Avenue with Rev.T.H. McAllister preciding June 10, 1939. Cyril was off to the 2nd World War as a gunnery officer in the R.C.N. Elsie helped finish their house which was being built by her father Bert Wilson and brothers on Obed Avenue. She liked to remind family how hot it was in Sept 1939 and that she gave the cedar siding 3 coats of paint. Elsie and Cyril lived in that house until moving to a condo on Tillicum Road in 2003. Elsie (Nana) tended to her balconey tomato plants and flowers with loving care until she broke her hip this August. She then moved up to Port Alberni in September to be with her family.

We all know how Nana loved to take some sandwiches and a thermos of coffee in her Studebaker and find a sunny bench for lunch with a friend. Her 1965 Studebaker has found a good home with her great grandsons in Port Alberni.

Family and friends will gather for a picnic and celebration of Nana’s life on the Sooke River on a sunny day in the spring.
