Elizabeth (Betty) Scherf
February 17, 1923 - January 7, 2008
Betty passed away peacefully with family at her
side in the Campbell River Hospital. She was
predeceased by her husband Adam, son, Jim,
(Ottawa) and son-in-law, David Smith (Quadra
Island). She is survived by her sons Michael
(Brenda) and Steve, daughters Catherine (Smith)
and Maggie, daughter-in-law, Kathleen, and grandchildren Christina, Kevin, Valerie, AJ, Marina, Nancy, Elizabeth and Jeffrey as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.
Betty was born in Glasgow, but lived in Quebec until 1972 when she moved to Campbell River, BC with her husband and youngest son, Steve. Betty will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her presence and support of St. Patrick’s church, and her commitment to the seniors in Campbell River. She was a part of the group Seniors
Helping Seniors who developed a Seniors’ Directory to insure seniors had access to relevant services and information. She helped toresearch and distribute the Directory which she typed before computers became
so common. Betty was also a very familiar face at Yuculta Lodge for many years. Until very recently, she volunteered in the tuck shop, at teas, Saturday bingos, on outings, and knitted for the gift shop. Her ready smile, her compassion and dependability were a comfort to all
who knew her. Her quiet presence and dignity will be sorely missed in the days to come.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on January 18th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Campbell River District Hospital Foundation.
