DOUGLAS ALLEN BIRCHALL

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Doug Birchall on October 4, 2008.

He was predeceased by his mother Mary Birchall.

Doug is survived by his devoted wife of 27 years Judith Margaret Birchall, Sister of Joy Birchall of Victoria. His son Scott Kratzmann (Colette) of Campbell River. His daughter Shannon Murphy of Santa Cruz California. Doug enjoyed his grandchildren Justin, Brittney, Braydon, of Campbell River and Sundara of Santa Cruz. He also leaves behind three children from a previous marriage, Ken, Dave and Denise.

Doug was born in East St. Paul Manitoba on March 24, 1937. He was a very energetic young man who excelled in hockey. His early adult years saw him living in Vancouver pursuing his goal to be a heavy duty mechanic. Doug paid his dues in many remote coastal logging camps, before making a permanent home in Campbell River. He spent many happy years working out of camp 8. On his off time he loved to race stock cars, golf and fish with his many friends. Before his retirement in 1992 he was working for Timberwest, in their Courtenay division.

During his retirement, Doug loved his golf. Wherever his travels took him, be assured that a nice golf course wasn't far away. As was the case when he and Judy bought a house on a beautiful course in North Carolina. The call of home remained strong and the couple returned to BC in 2002. They resided until very recently in Oliver, again close to a wonderful course, Fairview Mountain.

One of Doug's passions was gardening, he was especially proud of his wonderful apples and grapes that he loved to share with family and friends.

There will be a Celebration of Life for family and friends on October 18, 2008 at 3:00pm. in the afternoon at 2825 Denman St., Campbell River. Please bring your stories.
