DOREEN CECELIA WOOD (nee Green), born on May 16, 1923 in Georgetown, British Guyana, to Emmanuel & Martha Green, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2008 in Campbell River, BC. Doreen was predeceased by her parents; her infant granddaughters, Amy Noelle Wood & Emily Rebecca Wood; her sister, Stella Edghill and her aunt, Celia Dias. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Charles Frank Wood; her children, David (Patti) Wood, Paul Wood and Susan (Alvis) Lorentz. Doreen is also survived by her grandchildren, Allison Wood (Jay), Allan Wood, Steven (Amber) Lorentz, Derek Lorentz and Aiden Snyder; her great grandchild, Kolby Wood; her brother, Harry Green of Montreal, PQ; her sister in law, Julie Green of Brooklyn, New York; her nephew, Derek Edghill of Montreal, PQ; and her niece, Candice Gomes of Bourda-Demarara, Guyana. Doreen is also survived by her special friends; Lea Bakker-Calor of Holland, Emmy Becher of Arizona, Okie Radjah of Maple Ridge and Helga Hoffman, Len & Dora Nelson, Lance & Eileen Klaasen and Roy & Beryl Brown.

Doreen started corresponding with Charlie in 1946 when he was stationed in Namu, BC as a wireless operator. At that time, Doreen worked for Pan Am Airlines in Suriname. In 1949, Charlie asked Doreen to come to Canada. She arrived in Vancouver on December 8th, 1949 and 9 days later married in a quiet civil ceremony in his fathers’ home. They lived in Namu and eventually settled in Campbell River in 1953 where Charlie became the Assistant Post Master. Doreen started up her own janitorial service and eventually retired at the age of 65. Doreen had a love for Gardening, Cooking, making Jewelry, going to Garage Sales, Traveling, Playing Keno and Listening to Il Divo.

Our family would like to express their special thanks to Dr. Baerg, Dr. Kask, and third floor nursing staff for their loving care and attention given to Doreen.

A Celebration of Doreen’s Life will be held at Sutton’s Funeral Home, 502 South Dogwood Street, Campbell River, BC on Saturday, February 23rd, 2008 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Albert Hopp officiating. A Reception will follow the Service. Cremation entrusted to Mission Hill Crematorium. Flowers are gratefully accepted or Donations in Memory of Doreen may be made to either the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
