December 17, 2005

COWAN,

Donald Bert

After battling lung cancer for two years, Don Cowan passed away at Royal Jubilee Hospital on December 17, 2005 at the age of 76.

Don is survived by his loving wife Sue, sons Shawn (Shari) and Stuart (Katy), and grandchildren Tyler and Sophia. Don is predeceased by his close friends Stuart Jones and Frank Shore.

Don, born and raised in San Francisco, brought his family to Campbell River in 1967 seeking adventure. He bought a house on the beach at Ocean Grove and began to explore his new world. Don quickly renewed his passion for fishing, camping, and hunting and spent most weekends with his family enjoying outdoor pursuits. Eventually he was bitten by the golf bug and was well known at Storey Creek Golf Course for his colourful dress and language, as well as his inability to improve his game.

Don spent his working life teaching intermediate grades at Cedar Elementary School and impacted many Campbell River youth. Upon retirement, Don and Sue spent many years travelling in their little truck and camper in Mexico until finally becoming snowbirds in Arizona.

Don was well known for his sense of humour, his wit, and his acumen and will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Don’s life at 1:00 p.m. on January 7th at the Maritime Heritage Centre.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Don’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1423-B - 16th Ave., Campbell River, BC V9W 2C4.

Don’s family would like to give their most sincere thanks to all the caregivers that helped Don these last two years, you have been wonderful.
