Cecelia Marie McPhie, died peacefully, on Wednesday, December 13, 2006, at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, as a result of post surgical complications. She was born Cecelia Webb, on December 8, 1923 in Victoria, BC.

Cecelia attended St. Anne’s Academy in Victoria. During World War II she worked as a clerk for the RCAF where she met a young airman, Robert McPhie, from Pidgeon Lake, Alberta. Cecelia and Robert were wed at St. Andrews Cathedral in Victoria, on Valentine’s Day, 1946. Robert continued his career in the air force and the couple enjoyed postings in Edmonton, Patricia Bay, Jericho Beach, Trenton, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Goose Bay, and three years in France.

In the mid-Sixties, Cecelia and Robert returned to civilian life and settled in Sidney, BC.

In the early 1990’s the couple moved to Parksville, where they remained until Robert’s death on May 23, 2000. Cecelia moved to Nanaimo and for the last several years resided at Long Lake Chateau and eventually the Nanaimo Seniors Village.

Cecelia will be sadly missed by her five daughters and sons-in-law; Gail and Jim Guild of Abu Dhabi, UAE, (previously of Burlington Ontario); Sandra and Steve Parks of Surrey, BC; Roberta and Gordon Mebs of Sherwood Park, Alberta; Bonnie and Al Schnitter of Nanaimo and Barbara and Stephen McNicholls of Nanaimo.

Cecelia is also survived by ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A Memorial service will be held Saturday, January 6, 2007 at 11:00 am at the Church of the Ascension, 887 Wembly Road, Parksville, BC.

In lieu of flowers, Cecelia’s wish was for donations to be sent to the St. Vincent De Paul Society, at:: St. Vincent de Paul Centre Administration Office 101-831 Yates Street Victoria, BC V8W 1M1
